Unforgettable Maternity Pictures at the Beach

Sweet couple, Ali & Shawn, contacted me about doing Maternity Pictures at the Beach before the bad weather set in. This couple lives in the Pittsburgh, Pa area and like many people hailing from Pittsburgh, Erie is a favorite vacation spot. We’ve done photo sessions for many families over the years who have told us that Erie is an easily accessed place to travel to for a weekend get away. We’re away from the hustle and bustle of big city life and we boast many charming small towns, historic locations and of course, Lake Erie. While Ali and Shawn normally visit Presque Isle while they’re here, I suggested a quieter and more relaxing, private spot for their maternity pictures at the beach in Erie. 

Fisherman’s Beach is located in historic North East, Pa just beyond the busyness of downtown Erie and Presque Isle. Presque Isle attracts thousands of visitors each year, while North East, with it’s rural lifestyle isn’t even a blip on the radar when it comes to beach time. We are, however, well known on the Wine Trail drawing in thousands in September for the Wine Festival. 

But, this weekend everything was calm in North East as we met for their maternity pictures on the beach. We started in the lush creekside woods at the front of the park. The trees hadn’t begun to turn yet so everything was still fresh green in the tree line. We captured some photos by my go-to low hanging branches overlooking 20 mile creek before moving onto the tree lined path to capture some photos with the couples fur babies. We then walked down to the beach. The sky was partly-mostly cloudy which created a beautiful dramatic effect for these maternity pictures at the beach. Ali wore a light peach maternity dress and Shawn complimented her nicely in a cream short sleeve tailored shirt and shorts. The couple opted for a more relaxed look by going barefoot and I was a bit jealous of that. Barefoot is one of my favorite things to be in life. But, barefoot meant a relaxing walk in the surf as the tide came in with soft rolling waves. I set my camera up to create a soft look to the water as it gently washed over their feet. It just…fit the mood of the session. We ended by drawing their due date in the sand before we lost sunlight all together. It was just the perfect, most relaxing time.
