Spring Maternity Session in Erie Pa
I’ll start with…a LOT has changed since I captured Kaylee & Dominic’s Fall Maternity Photos at Eaton Reservoir. I’ll let you in on a little secret: (Kaylee & Dominic’s first session was also MY first maternity session). The love between this couple has grown and I’ve grown as an artist and photographer. So, when I learned that they were honoring me with capturing their spring maternity session I was thrilled. This sweet couple is preparing to welcome their second little boy into the world and I feel so lucky to be a small part of it. Documenting this journey has been so fulfilling.
Kaylee’s last pregnancy was due in December so we captured a fall session with darker colors. However, this time around she’s due in late spring so a spring maternity session was exciting. It means vivid new grass, and loads of pastels as the flowers begin to bloom in Erie County. Also, I reflected back on the sessions I’ve had the honor of shooting and most of them have been late fall and early winter. Because of that the majority of the expectant moms have chosen dark reds or vibrant reddish/purples for their maternity attire. When Kaylee agreed to my suggestion of pink I was beyond excited. What a change! I love variety and this was right up my alley.
Because Kaylee was so open to my suggestions for pastels we searched for an outdoor location for this spring maternity session that would compliment the feel we were going for. Luckily, Granite Ridge in North East, Pa has a beautiful tree that flowers with delicate pink blossoms every year in April. I don’t even know the name of the tree, but I have admired it for years as I walk the grounds. Granite Ridge is a popular location right in town for families and dog walkers to visit for some exercise in a tranquil location.
The historic granite buildings that once served as a religious facility is an enchanting backdrop for any portrait session AND the iron lamp stands that turn on at dusk add even more atmosphere. In Erie County the daylight in winter and spring has more of a blue tint compared to the gold of summer and fall, so the cool pastel pink was ideal for the lighting as well. We didn’t roam far on the grounds as everything we needed to create a magical spring maternity session was right there on the east side of the property.
